Good bye funpic! - Tom [All my articles] (Do, 06 Sep 2007 00:29:58 +0200)
Well, I hate the adds, I hate the bad configured FTP Server that doesn't even know SSL. So I am going to move the whole bunch off here. Maybe I'll just run it on my home box, or on jacklab.net - but funpic... just sucks..

Native Linux VST hits Gentoo pro-audio overlay - Tom [All my articles] (So, 22 Apr 2007 14:29:18 +0200)
Jorgen caused some sort of explosion with his EnergyXT2 Linux beta, that acts as host for native Linux compiled VST plugins. Really awesome application - commercial one though. kRAkEn/gORe coded an open source VST host for jack called JOST, and ported and coded a bunch of nice plugins. So I felt like writing a set of ebuilds for all that, available in the Gentoo pro-audio overlay. There are over 100 plugins available atm! Enjoy!
Why Audio on Linux sucks hell - or, LONG LIVE ReBorn! - Tom [All my articles] (Fr, 20 Apr 2007 21:46:38 +0200)
So, after some years of hanging around a linux box, I am more and more missing the ability to just fucking make some sounds - and I will pretty much convert my reiserfs music partition to something Windows mountable like ext3 and start stealing software again. Why? Well, I'm more into doing electronic music. So what I need is - a good sequencer
- a good drum sequencer
- tons of plugins, ones that humans are able to understand without being a sound

XSM upgraded - lets test \o/ - Tom [All my articles] (Do, 12 Apr 2007 12:17:22 +0200)
Heya! Long time no see :) Just decided to look if HandyAndE is still working on XSM and if there is a new version out there. Wasn't easy to find as rxsm.sourceforge.net still points to sf's dl page - completely outdated. So http://dev.rectang.com/projects/xsm is the place for downloads now. As I see, my page here is pretty outdated and unloved atm. Will see if I can spend some time in bringin' up something new. Cheers.
wiki completely spammed and b0rked - Tom [All my articles] (So, 13 Aug 2006 19:01:22 +0200)
ooops. The Multimedia-Wiki is totally spammed and b0rked, didn't look at it for a month or two and booom. Fucking kiddies. Will see if I can repair it and then it will be closed for public, which i didn't want to in the first place, but well...
e17 fbsplash theme - Tom [All my articles] (Do, 11 Mai 2006 10:46:10 +0200)
Recently Reuben Dhaliwal stumbled over this page and decided to make an E17 fbsplash theme. The result is a very simple, clean, and very stylish splash theme that fits perfectly to Entrance and E17. Would be worth to make a video of the complete boot sequence: boot into entrace, login, the E17 startup splash and the desktop.. wohow. See the full preview: ... You can download the tarball here. Thanks Reuben, that's really a nice one! ;)

Some might already know evermind's excellent pro-audio gentoo overlay from http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-427211.html. We now have setup a SVN repository for easier updating and contributing. You can view the repository via svnweb: svnweb proaudio overlay You can checkout the overlay with: svn co svn://svn.tuxfamily.org/svnroot/ckpp/proaudio See the 00-README for more details. Enjoy!
Multimedia Wiki up'n'running - Tom [All my articles] (Do, 13 Apr 2006 12:32:58 +0200)
Good news everyone! The multimedia wiki is up'n'running ;)
Multimedia Links WiKi - Tom [All my articles] (Mo, 13 Mrz 2006 13:43:06 +0100)
I'm going to turn the multimedia links page into a wiki page, editable by anyone. The page is linked on a lot of sites, the Germen Linux-Magazine even wrote a nice article about it.. and because i feel a bit ashame of not keeping it going on right, i think it's a good thing to make it a wiki where everyone can add links to nice and useful apps. Not quite sure how to do it though. Would be nice if that wiki was included in ...
E17: e_module ebuilds off again - Tom [All my articles] (Mo, 27 Feb 2006 23:52:02 +0100)
Today KainX had a fucking bad day and completely messed e_modules and pretty much pissed off devilhorns, the original mainaitner. So i had to take the split ebuilds offline... don't want to provide ebuilds for crap. Those who still have it, better back up your e_modules CVS directory...) If you need a snapshot (last working version I have from.. yesterday: emodules-CVS-bak.tar.bz2
E17: ebuilds for e_modules - Tom [All my articles] (Mo, 30 Jan 2006 23:42:54 +0100)
The modules for e17 are now in their own dir in CVS. I created a set of ebuilds. Just untar that to $PORTDIR_OVERLAY/x11-plugins emodule-ebuilds.tar.bz2 currently following modules are available: emodule-calendar
emodule-flame
emodule-monitor
emodule-mount
emodule-rain
emodule-rss
emodule-screenshot
emodule-slideshow
emodule-snow
emodule-tclock
emodule-weather Btw.. renaming an ebuilds is enough to get new modules, for example: mkdir emodule-flame
cp emodule-calendar/emodule-calendar-9999.ebuild ...

IE suxx - Tom [All my articles] (Fr, 09 Dez 2005 10:41:05 +0100)
mwaaahahahaaaa, if you can read this, you are using a good browser, or set opera to NOT identify as IE. Internet Explorer is from now on blocked from my hompage, and will immediately be redirected to this one: http://gimpel.funpic.de/ie_suxx.html - heheheheee, just for fun!
fbsplash/gensplash theme section added - Tom [All my articles] (Di, 06 Dez 2005 15:49:38 +0100)
Hmmm, looked for a nice collection of ready-to-go fbsplash/gensplash themes and well... couldn't find any. So i added a new section here on the page and start collecting nice themes i find on the net, and maybe do some own (trying to port and slightly modify suse 10's bootsplash theme, which has an uber leet 'progress bar', but till now i didn't get it working). I know the nice tool bootsplash2fbsplash for converting bootsplash themes... tons of ...
Howto use Cherry Master Linux/Solar with e17 - Tom [All my articles] (Sa, 03 Dez 2005 12:55:14 +0100)
Got myself an awesome Cherry CyMotion Master Solar wireless keyboard with 29 hotkeys, and after playing around with cherry's keyman software for some hours all i can say is that IT JUST SUCKS HELL! :p Also why should one use some kind of hotkeys daemon if the windowmanager has a built-in one.... so i got it working like this: IMPORTANT! See Comments below for an even nicer solution! 1. Making the keys knownTherefor i used that initscript here ...
Downloads up again - Tom (So, 13 Nov 2005 15:09:15 +0100)
OK now all downloads are available over the webspace here. btw: BIG SORRY! funpic.de now displays a fucking ad when accessing the site. I use adblock in firefox to kill that crap. Also google seems to hate it.
gimpel.ath.cx semi-offline - Tom (Mo, 24 Okt 2005 11:34:48 +0200)
Moved in a new flat and am still fighting against a crappy zyxel router. NAT doesn't work like i want it to, so till i got a new router gimpel.ath.cx won't be reachable. All ebuilds etc are not available till then.

XSM news - Tom (So, 14 Aug 2005 14:14:09 +0200)
Andy's CMS is doing very well here. He managed to add ftp upload support \o/ Now i don't have to mirror the page from local apache up to funpic anymore. awesome!
jacklab apt repository - Tom (Do, 11 Aug 2005 12:23:27 +0200)
Since today the jacklab project has a apt4rpm repository for SuSE 9.0-9.3! An overview of all packages can be found at http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/jacklab. I also posted a new kernel testing patch 2.6.13-rc4-jad1 at http://linux-club.de/viewtopic.php?p=208461#208461. So if someone is brave enuogh to build it and test it we would be glad to hear if it works good for you :) cheers!

gimpel.org? WTF?? - Tom (Fr, 10 Jun 2005 21:41:02 +0200)
As i don't have a built in website statistics thing in xsm, i re-enabled my statcounter.com account. And while looking around i found in "popular pages" www.gimpel.org. WHAT THE HELL?? gimpel.org is a redirect to gimpel.homelinux.org, which i have registered at dyndns.org, and actually i don't even use it, as i prefer gimpel.ath.cx ... that's my local apache, running on my desktop box and on poor ADSL with 256k upstream. Whois results: ...
gimpel goes XSM: mission almost accomplished! - Tom (Fr, 10 Jun 2005 17:25:07 +0200)
heh, looks nice. I like it! Well, the Layout is portet from the mambojumbo one but is still suck too much on CSS and html stuff as i could do my own. So porting this one has been good practise. Now, i need a nice menu still, aaand Andy said he'll make XSM capable of ftp transfers, which would be awesome, as funpic can't do ssh. But no prblem.. gftp helps :P So far, so good! I'm ready to kick off mambo it seems \o/
gimpel goes XSM! - Tom (Do, 09 Jun 2005 20:25:51 +0200)
OK! mambo somehow annoys me, ugly urls, php+mysql bleh, borkes itself etc... So i'm going to switch to HandyAndE's Rectang XSM.. nice static html pages, what has to work, really works, and if that backend one day explodes or something (what i don't expect ;)) pages can still be edited with an editor. Somehow i prefer using a CMS even for a one-man-page rather than writing them with an editor. Also who knows, one day a project is started, ...
